Whitetail Crossing Cabin Village – Things To Do
On Site At Whitetail:
Swimming Pools – Two pools for your enjoyment. One just for the tykes.
Kids Playground – Speaking of the tykes, here’s some more fun for them.
Basketball Court – Located next to the Playground.
Volleyball Court – Get a team together, just south of the boat parking lot.
Fire Pits – Available at all cabins for weenie roasts, or campfires, to sit around and tell your favorite family stories.
Horseshoes – A great old game. Four are available, located throughout the village.
Disc or Frisbee Golf – A nine basket course winds through the Cabin Village.
You can get scorecards & rent a disc set at the office.
Hiking Trails – 2.5 miles are available and suitable for hikers of all ages
including the Walk On The Wild Side Trail.
In the Lake Shelbyville Area:
There are many excellent activities in the Lake area. We have chosen a few of our favorite’s to highlight here. We think you will enjoy!
Lake Shelbyville Visitors Center – Museum, Aquariums, Terrariums, Butterfly House, Gardens, Fantastic View. Open 9:30-4:30. Call 774-3951.
Public Beaches – Located at Shelbyville and Sullivan for $1 per person, per day. Restrooms, Lockers, and Picnic Areas. Open 8 am to sunset. Very nice.
General Dacey Trail – 7 miles of a paved hike or bike trails starting in Forest Park in Shelbyville. These are outstanding trails with great views of the Lake, the Dam, and wildlife. There is an additional 5.5 miles of single dirt track for dirt bike riders. Info at www.daceytrail.org.
Findlay Marina or Lithia Springs Marina – No boat? Don’t let that stop you from enjoying the lake. These Marina’s rent Party Barges, Pontoons, and Fishing Boats, for 4 or 8-hour trips. A day on the lake with friends and family is awesome! It’s 10 min. to Findlay or 20 min. to Lithia from Whitetail. Call Findlay at 756-8595 or get Lithia info at www.lithiamarina.com.
East Spillway Recreation Area Fishing – If you would like to “bank fish” the Lake, this is the best spot by a Dam site. Just east of the Dam. ADA Piers.
Fox Prairie Golf Course – A 30 min. drive from Whitetail is this scenic, beautifully maintained 18 hole course near Windsor, IL. A great layout that is both challenging and fun. Best greens around. Call 217-459-2805 or go to www.FoxPrairieGolf.com.
Oak Terrace Golf Course and Lake View Spa – Do some of your group like to golf but some don’t? No worries, Oak Terrace near Pana has an excellent 18 hole golf course plus a full-service spa. Mulligans restaurant is also on site. A 35 min. drive from Whitetail, get more info at www.oakterraceresort.com.
Locked and Loaded Indoor Firing Range – If you’re a firearm enthusiast or would just like to try it, Locked n Loaded Indoor Firing Range in Pana is the place to go. Rental guns and ammo are available or you can bring in your own. One member of your party must have a FOID card. At 1299 E Jackson in Pana, it’s a 25-minute drive from Whitetail. Boarmans Chevy BelAir Museum – If you have a fondness for the 50’s, you need to check out this great spot for 50’s cars and memorabilia. Located at 224 W Main St. in Shelbyville. Open 8-6 M-Sat. Call 774-4919.
Forest Park Aquatic Center – Located in Forest Park in Shelbyville, this is an outstanding Mini Waterpark for all ages with zero depth entry, a water slide, sandy and wet playground areas, frog slide, diving board, concessions, and a bathhouse. Noon to 8 M-F, 1 to 6 Sat-Sun. Call 217-774-4343.
Boarmans Roxy Theater – At the Roxy, you can enjoy 1st run movies in a restored, classic, award-winning, early 1900’s movie theater. Open 7 days a week with a 6:30 pm show plus 2:00 pm matinees on Sat and Sun. Here’s something else that’s old fashioned, admission is $4! Info at 217-774-7699.
Willow Ridge Winery – An excellent place to enjoy some fine Illinois wines and visit with friends. A 10 min. drive. Info at www.willowridgewinery.com.
Niemerg Family Winery – Just 5 minutes up the road is this wonderful, friendly, and cozy gathering place in a restored 100-year-old building at 301 S Main in Findlay. Be sure to try the sangria. For info call 217-756-5521.
Visit Amish Country in Arthur Illinois – A 40 min. drive away, Arthur is home to Illinois largest Amish settlement. Amish farms and horse-drawn buggies are a common sight. Arthur has lots of unique shops, stores, and bakeries where you can buy handmade Amish items like furniture, quilts, crafts, clothing, foods, etc. If you go, here are a few of our favorite stops.
Beachy’s Food Store, 259N Cr. 200E, Arthur. For wood products go to The Calico Workshop at 228 S Vine, Arthur. And for real Amish cooking, please be hungry when you go to Yoder’s Kitchen at 1195 E Columbia St. Arthur.
The Little Theater on the Square – About a 25 min. drive away in Sullivan, the Little Theater has been producing great “live” theater since 1957. To see a show schedule go to www.thelittletheatre.org or call 217-728-7375.
Restaurants – A few restaurants we really like in Shelbyville are, Monical’s Pizza for great thin crust pizza. Our favorite toppings are, “The Rams Special” and “BBQ Chicken”. If you like Chinese food, you are sure to like the buffet at Yen Ching. The Mexican food at Chapala Mexican Grill is also very good. The local Dairy Queen is delicious, clean, friendly and well managed. For an old fashioned “burger joint” experience, check out Druby’s and don’t forget to order a milkshake or a soft-serve cone.
Antiquing – If you enjoy antique shops, you will find some nice ones in Shelbyville, Sullivan, and Arthur.
